New ACOG Practice Bulletin

It’s time for cervical length screening for all singletons! Use the CerviLenz device during routine prenatal visits to find the patients most likely to have a short cervix and refer for an indicated TVU. Given a TVU diagnosis of short cervix, treat with vaginal progesterone per ACOG Practice Bulletin No. 130: “Prediction and Prevention of Preterm Birth.”

It’s Time to Screen for Short Cervix: Vaginal Progesterone Prevents Preterm Birth

In an independent survey of obstetricians, 90% said that the new society practice guidelines represent a change in practice. Seventy-two percent said they are likely to add cervical length screening to routine prenatal care. The primary concerns about implementing universal TVU screening are cost and time barriers.

Among obstetricians surveyed, 95% see a role for the CerviLenz device in supporting adoption of universal screening, 80% specifically in their practice. Here are some of the things they said:

“A great way to screen for TVU.” “Probably much cheaper than ultrasound.” “This is all you’d need for 95% of your patients.” “Really quick and easy.” “My nurse could use this. “ “Patients would appreciate not having to wait or schedule an ultrasound elsewhere.”
